My Very First Blog Post

4 August, 2008 (05:49) | Uncategorized

So this is what all the hype is about.  I’m a bit concerned with the amount of excitement that I’m experiencing right now.  I’ve been reading other people’s blogs for many years now and not once have I ever felt inclined to start my own blog.

But in the last three days, I’ve installed Apache, PHP, MySQL, WordPress, and setup this blog site on my laptop at home.  Now suddenly, I’ve got this itch to put my thoughts out there for everyone to see . . . and criticize . . . and ridicule.

What’s the big deal?  Why am I so hyped up over something that I’ve never had the slightest inkling of interest in the past.  Is it the technical aspect that I did this all on my own and I’ve got a server running online.  I don’t even have my own domain. . . . yet.  Uh-oh.  I guess this is how it all begins…

Just don’t forget to enable SSH access to your machine so you can do stuff from home. I wonder…are VNC connections cross-platform? Probably not. That would be cool to access Linux remotely via Windows.

I’m jusy amazed at how all these little open source projects, cms’es and blogging platforms have wiped asp.net and javaserver pages off the map. Shows you the value of community.
